Managed WiFi for hotels: why switch and what you get specifically

What is managed WiFi for hotels and why are you looking for it?

Are you looking for a way to ensure reliable WiFi in your hotel or guesthouse without having to hire an IT technician or worry about server configuration? Managed WiFi is exactly that: a wireless network management model where the controller (the brain of the entire network, which manages all access points) runs in the cloud, is operated by a specialist company, and you have the assurance that it works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In practice, this means: no computer in the cupboard, no midnight patch updates, no calls to the technician at 3 am because guests report they have no WiFi. Instead, you get an overview of network status, alerts on outages and monthly reports, so you can focus on what keeps your business running: guest satisfaction.

Real-life example: Hotel Modrá Hvězda, Prague 5

The Blue Star Hotel with 12 rooms in Prague 5 operated a UniFi network with a self-hosted controller on an old mini PC. One day in August during the holidays, the hardware failed, on Thursday afternoon at full occupancy. The controller was offline, so the technician had to travel there physically and restore from a backup that was 3 weeks old. Guests were without proper WiFi for over 4 hours, and the hotel received 2 negative reviews that week.

After switching to managed WiFi via wifisprava.cz? No outage longer than 3 minutes throughout the entire year of 2025. Every issue was detected automatically and resolved remotely, guests did not complain even once.

Problems with a self-hosted controller

The vast majority of small hotels, guesthouses and restaurants in the Czech Republic operate a UniFi network with a self-hosted controller. That is, on their own computer, an old server cabinet or a Raspberry Pi somewhere in the utility room. This solution works as long as it works. But:

Advantages of managed WiFi for hotels

Switching to managed WiFi for hotels delivers concrete, measurable benefits: not just technical jargon:

How does the transition to managed WiFi work?

Migrating an existing UniFi network to a managed controller takes just one hour in almost all cases and is performed remotely. No technician needs to be on-site at the hotel, and operations do not need to be interrupted. The specific procedure:

  1. Please provide us with the login credentials for your existing controller or access point.
  2. Our team exports the configuration (SSID, passwords, VLANs, guest portal settings).
  3. The access points are reconfigured one by one under our managed controller, each AP is offline for a maximum of one minute.
  4. We will verify that everything is functioning correctly and activate monitoring and alerts.

If you prefer a technician's personal presence (for example, for more complex configurations or larger premises), we will arrange a visit. However, in 9 out of 10 cases, we can handle it remotely.

Conclusion: who is managed WiFi suitable for?

Managed WiFi makes sense for any hotel, guesthouse or restaurant running a UniFi network without its own IT department. Whether you have 3 APs or 30 APs. It doesn't matter. What matters is whether you want the assurance that your WiFi works and receive an alert before your guest does.

Prices start from 299 Kč per month excluding VAT - less than one hour of IT technician time on-site. For that price you get peace of mind and monitoring that self-hosted solutions can never offer.
